9 D’OCTUBRE DIA DEL PAIS VALENCIÀ (October 9 Valencian Country Day)

On October 9 marks the day when Jaume I reconquered the city of Valencia from the Arabs in 1238. Even though spent some time until the kingdom of Valencia was constituted in the year 1304-1305 and further to have the current territory (after incorporation of Requena and Utiel in 1851), was chosen to be this symbolic the day that was released which would become the capital of the kingdom of Valencia and current capital of the Valencian Community.
While in the city of Valencia this celebration has its origins in the fourteenth century, in the rest of the community did not become a holiday institutional to the 1976 when parliament was constituted in full the day of Valencia.

The first commemorative procession was held in his centenary (1338), calling on San Dionisio to end the famine caused by crop failure, with the participation of all sectors of the city. Repeated every year with less luxury.

The celebration was banned just after Felipe V abolished the Valencian charters, which does not happen again or the dictatorship of Franco (which despite its festive character took off, still making the civic procession Señera (Flag of Valencia).
