THE OTHER SIDE OF VALENCIA STREET CIRCUIT part 1

To understand the other side of Valencia Street Circuit, one must know the context (historical, political, economic and social) surrounding it and that led to its construction is brought:

1 In Valencia, since in 1995, Eduardo Zaplana won the regional elections with the Partido Popular "PP" (which is defined as center-right) and Rita Barbera won the mayoralty of the city of Valencia in 1991 (also rules in Alicante and Castellón). The PP has been perpetuated ever more in political power in Valencia, thanks largely to its policies of macro projects paid for with public money in favor of private companies: the City of Arts and Sciences, The Ricardo Tormo circuit of motorcycles at Cheste, the failed and reinvented several times Terra Mitica thematic park, the mega port of Valencia, the America's Cup among others.

2 The port of Valencia, managed by the same company as the de Sagunto and Gandia (the principals of the community).
In early 2006, according to the Ministry of Development, the port of Valencia became the first port traffic of goods from Spain, one of the 10 largest in Europe and was among the 50 in the world. This was thanks in part to the sum of its three ports, expanding wildly (and illegally) of more than 500,000 square meters in the garden of la Punta (municipal district of Valencia, with urban vegetable garden ecosystem that has been declared specially protected area by the  European Union, because Valencia being one of only three European cities to integrate the garden within the city) to build the Logistics Activities Area (ZAL) and expanding offshore brutally interfering with sea currents make the beach of  las Arenas earn tons of sand each year, to the detriment from the beaches of the Albufera 's Natural park  that lost (seriously threatening its ecosystem).
In exchange for the forced and illegal expropriation (because you can't expropriate publicly in favor of a private company) port "gave" the Royal Marines for the America's Cup in 2007.

3 America's Cup, in 2007 the city of Valencia celebrated this famous sailing regatta with a direct investment of 423,631,040 euros (source slideshare.net) to construct the teams buildings (which after the regatta were empty), remodeling of the inner harbor inside and adequacy of port for the regatta.
Most of this infrastructure spending justified on the grounds that after its finalization would be a shopping and entertainment area full of life (an idea that eventually fell under its own weight), which did not, because the technical equipments, were auctioned for a ridiculous price the buildings of the teams, and the viewpoint building Veles e Vents and the others  fell into disuse by the high rents being requested to repay the investment and the limited tourist attraction of the area after the competition. The only area that continues with seasonal tourism are pubs areas along the Veles e Vents which basically work in summer chill-out outdoors terraces. The rest of the businesses created for the America's Cup for being closed down for economically unviable reasons.
